Revel in nature’s fall colors at Brookgreen Gardens Harvest Home Festival on October 24-25.  Enter the scarecrow building contest, try pumpkin painting or opt for hay rides, basket-weaving and pottery demonstrations while listening to live bluegrass music. With the lush Brookgreen Gardens as the setting, your fall vacation will be filled with beauty.  Covered with palmetto trees, hydrangeas and expansive lawns, Brookgreen Gardens resembles a swampy Garden of Eden.

Nestled between Myrtle Beach and Pawley’s Island, the 9,200-acre outdoor museum and National Historic Landmark boasts sculptures, gardens, fountains, marshes, swamps, an aviary and a zoo.  This place is so massive that admission tickets are good for seven consecutive days. I recommend devoting a day to the Harvest Home Festivalactivities and another for the sculpture garden and lowcountry zoo.

The Huntington Sculpture Garden opened as the country’s first public sculpture garden in 1931 and continues to display a distinct collection of 12,000 works by 350 sculptors.  The garden showcases a stunning range of figurative pieces from bronze animals, to classical figures like the Roman goddess Diana on a hunt.  The lowcountry zoo features native animals like alligators, eagles and foxes.  Enjoy the full weekend  with the kids and stay at the Dunes Village Resort in Myrtle Beach, equipped with an indoor water park.

The Harvest Home Festival runs from 9:30AM- 4:30 PM each day.  Admission is included in the Brookgreen Gardens fee of $12 for adults and $5 for children 6-12.
